Strong shadows in After the Bath become an intense side of the figure's personality, as her more passive characteristics are revealed in the strong sunlight that flows into the room.

This bas-relief sculpture depicts a dancing figure in motion. Curved lines in the repositioning figure carry the rhythm of her movements.

Graces combines the methods of couper/coller with acrylic washes.

Pigeon Canyon Survivors pictures a thirsty willow tree and a small flowering plant in a canyon long since gone the way of drought, part of a land of strong contrasts in southern New Mexico.

The Trip to Town tells a story of strong intergenerational bonding in the face of change.

Part of a triptych, Frijoles Canyon Juniper depicts one of three events occurring simultaneously in Frijoles Canyon at Bandelier National Monument ruins in central New Mexico. The tree persists in spite of the harsh conditions in which it grows.

The dominant character of the cat in The Lady and the Tiger is revealed in its green stripes, which capture and project the light in the painting.

The personalities of the birds are revealed in Early Spring Meeting in the Coral Tree, as they caw and chatter and make their plans for another season. Strong color contrasts awaken the observer to the dynamism of their message.

The color red in Gladiolus tells a story of contradictions. A gladiola blooms among desert weed plants and cactus, as the lady with painted nails surrenders herself to the heat of the day.

Joel Miller has developed unique works of art and art processes for over twenty-five years. His approach to color and composition focuses on vivid imagery and emotional impact. One of his specialties is cut paper laminate art, which combines traditional and modern methods to produce works that have the permanence of oil paintings and the brilliance of acrylics. Miller's paper art often captures Southwestern themes. A number of his pieces have been developed as larger mural-sized pieces. The artist welcomes inquiries and commissions for larger pieces of art and sculpture. He meets with clients to discuss their goals and visions for art within their homes or places of business. Attention to detail in the creation in each piece is evident in the enlargement on the left. Bits of colored paper are cut to sharpen the image of the flower and give it strong symbolic and emotional impact. Another of the artist's focuses is sculpture and bas-relief.
